I dont have to pay anything for a in-US line (thanks to Google + Gizmo) and can have extremely cheap pre-paid international calls where I pay less than half of what I was paying on skype and 1800 calling cards. pretty cool :)Overall, I would recommend it to anyone. If you can configure a software client on your laptop, you can get through this with the online articles (wont make it with the provided documentation - I guarantee you that). The adapater also lets you configure rules that are applied to the dialled numbers. With gizmo, I have wired it to my google voice number, so basically I have a free phone service at home without keeping my computer on all the time. But I have to warn you, configuring this adapter isnt for every one; but this isnt for the SIP experts either. you can configure it such that if you dial "FATHER" (i.e.
328437) the adapter actually dials your father's number. It works well, and I never had to reset it in the past 2 months that I have used it.The adapter came with limited documentation. I was done in about 30 minutes. You can assign some fancy numbers to your contact, and have the adapter translate it to the right number. But it is quite easy to locate help online for PAPT2 configuration. I have it configured with two SIP providers (gizmo5 and localphone).
It is quite easy to do once you get the configuration information from your SIP provider. For e.g.
10 years ago, I would have needed a mortgage. The other choiche is an IP Phone, that links directly into the router, but the cordless ones are expensive, whilst the adaptor enables you to use the cheap ordinary cordless phones. Dual voltage (110-220V)is an important quality for me as I move often. Also, the ability to use two phone lines is another big plus. All in all I am pleased and I would advice this adapter to all who want to bring the cost of telephone calls down dramatically (that depends on the provider that you will choose, and there are some very inexpensive ones). You need to be a bit conversant with VOIP systems, but I was able to set my Voipcheap and my Eutelia services quite comfortably and I had them running in about 20 minutes, all I needed was to ensure the following fields were set: Proxy, Display Name, User ID, and Password were stored and I left the rest as default.I have a US Robotics Router USR5461 and the two are well paired. It works great, no issues at all. This is not my first VOIP device. After a few weeks of use I had to go back and assign 5 stars. I was half expecting the setup would require a little search through the internet forums to make it work properly. In the last 3 years I spent less than 100$ to connect regularly to my family in UK and Italy from the US.
Great device, haven't had much of a chance to use it yet, but it works great with Gizmo5.
This PAP2T is still going strong and lets me make and receive phone calls over my High Speed internet connection whenever I need to. I have waited to review this product to see if it would last this long. Buy this product as it is of great value.
If you buy a PAP2T, make sure you get it from somewhere reputable. Be aware that there are a lot of counterfeit PAP2Ts being sold, primarily from Hong Kong, with fake MAC addresses and serial numbers. I bought mine from the main Amazon.com store, and it was genuine.
